Rise of Mobile Apps to Challenge IT Bosses

It seems that in 2011, a majority of the IT managers in U.S. firms are planning to expand the number of mobile applications they make available to their firms’ employees.

It only makes sense, after all, that enterprise IT should take notice of one of the most profound shifts transforming consumer technology habits.

Indeed, a new survey conducted by a division of Sybase found that 90 percent of IT managers plan to introduce new mobile apps, while 21 percent said they’d dispatch at least 20 mobile apps in their organizations.

“The proliferation of new devices, coupled with the vast expansion of mobile applications used by consumers, has paved the road for mobility solutions to enter the enterprise at the worker, workgroup, and workflow levels,” said Dan Ortega, Sybase’s senior director product marketing.

“Given all this, we expect 2011 to be the year of the transformation of the enterprise.”

But nearly half of those who are bullish on mobile apps said they don’t plan to hire new staff to manage the challenges, or even have a strategy in place to deal with the new challenges. Datamation takes a look.
