Companion BV next week at Fall Internet World in NYC will release its new Web development tool, Companion 2.0, which facilitates the efficient and systematic management of a web site. Companion provides new methods for code reusability, site management, database publications and resource and link management.

Using Companion 2.0, any code segment (HTML, ASP, JavaScript, VBScript, and so on) can be turned into a reusable and customizable component. A component’s flexibility can be optimized by utilizing Companion Script and specific parameters. The developer identifies constituent parts of pages or sections, such as navigation bars, index lists or database queries, creates components and integrates them into templates, or additional components.

Companion Script enables a developer to control how a component acts on a specific page. Companion creates the web pages by processing the templates, components and Companion tags. The end result is always pure code (HTML, ASP, JavaScript, VBScript, and so on), without any trace of the Companion scripts.

Companion supports Microsoft Access as well as any ODBC-compliant database for use in Web publications. This allows the development of pre-generated database-driven Web pages. By using Companion’s database lookup-wizards, the developer selects fields and records that need to be published.

Companion includes a powerful script editor with features such as Syntax Coloring, Auto Completion, Drag and Drop, extensive HTML help and Companion Script help, a full-featured debug facility and a multi-user development. HTML-wizards help the developer with the creation of tables, framesets, color tags, font tags and forms.
