IBM this week announced the release of a new version of the IBM HomePage Creator, a solution for Web site creation and hosting that features updated technology and expanded services.

IBM, which also announced it is making the product available for the first time in Europe, said the new release is designed to enable companies to take advantage of the increasing number of consumers that are spending money on the Web.

The IBM HomePage Creator for e-business retails for $24.95 per month and up, and features a simplified interface that will make it easier for customers to create their own sites. Users actually develop the sites online with their own Web browser using a new point-and-click Java interface. The sites are hosted by IBM, so customers do not need their own Web servers.

HomePage Creator for e-business provides customers with the ability to create, post and host the site, and develop electronic commerce-enabled catalogs. Web pages can be published with just a click of the mouse, without the use of FTP programs or even HTML coding.

The service also includes on-screen hit counters, catalogs, choice of site name, support for DNS names and transaction functionality. The solution even features automated site registration with more than 20 search engines to help customers get their site noticed.
