The Sun–Netscape Alliance Thursday
announced the latest version of its iPlanet Web Server, Enterprise Edition
4.1 and its new FastTrack Edition 4.1 software.
These products now include
support for the Linux operating system and the latest Java technologies.
These latest additions enable iPlanet Web Server software to provide users
with an even wider degree of choice and flexibility in using the software
on the operating system of their choice. New support for the latest Java
technology will allow its customers to use this technology to create
“high-performing, portable and visually dynamic Web applications.”
The iPlanet Web Server, FastTrack Edition 4.1 software will be offered to
developers for free. FastTrack 4.1 features nearly all the core application
development and administrative features of Enterprise Edition 4.1 that

With support
for the Linux operating system on iPlanet Web Server software, the Alliance
is touting its product endorsement of Linux as an enterprise-class
operating system. Support for JavaServer Pages 1.1, Java Servlets 2.2 and
the Java 2 platform additionally enhances the iPlanet Web Server,
Enterprise Edition 4.1 software’s Java technology performance.
A pre-release version of iPlanet Web Server, Enterprise Edition 4.1
software for Linux is available now on the iPlanet Web site. The full
release of the software for Linux, NT and Solaris operating systems is
