Microsoft Corp. recently announced the release of the Microsoft XML Parser for incorporation by third-party software developers.
The Microsoft XML Parser can be redistributed and is fully compliant with the World Wide Web Consortium’s Extensible Markup Language (XML) 1.0 specification. It enables developers to support XML in any or all of the presentation, business logic or storage elements of an application.
Some of the leading independent software vendors, such as Allaire Corp., Novell Inc. and Object Design Inc., have announced that they will be using the Microsoft XML Parser for XML support within their upcoming software products.
Additionally, Microsoft has been working to integrate the parser directly into all of its own products which are used to build Windows Distributed interNet Applications (Windows DNA). So far, XML support and integration is available in:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5
- Internet Information Services (IIS) 4.0
- Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS)
- Microsoft Message Queue Server (MSMQ)
- Microsoft SQL Server(tm) 7.0
- Microsoft Repository 2.0
Microsoft’s XML Parser is a fully compliant, high-performance, validating parser which Microsoft believes can be easily integrated with any Windows operating system-based application. The parser can be programmed using any programming or scripting language, including ECMAScript, Java, Perl, Python, SQL, Visual Basic, Visual C++, or VBScript. It supports the W3C XML Document Object Model (DOM), the XML Stylesheet Language (XSL) W3C working draft and the XML 1.0 Namespaces Recommendation.
