Netscape Communications
Corp. announced that its Netscape Messenger mail source code for Communicator 5.0 will be introduced to developers on its mozilla.org Web site this week.
The company said the move is a follow-up to its initial release of the Communicator 5.0 source code six weeks ago to the Web developer community.
Once the Messenger source code roll out is completed, Netscape said it
will have handed out the source for all the main components of Communicator, which includes the Navigator browser, Composer editor, and Messenger e-mail and news provider.
The Messenger mail source code release includes a customizable three-pane
user interface that provides users with an integrated view of mail
folders, newsgroups, and message content. This will enable developers to
potentially enhance the performance and use of Messenger via improvements to IMAP and centralized management areas, the company said.
“Since releasing the Netscape Communicator 5.0 source code, mozilla.org
has experienced incredible participation and interaction with the Internet
developer community,” said Tom Paquin, Netscape fellow and manager of
mozilla.org.
“By starting the release of the Messenger source code this week,
we believe mozilla.org will continue to promote the evolution of the
Communicator 5.0 development process by leveraging the extensive developer
talent on the Net.”
The mozilla.org site is sponsored by DevEdge Online, Netscape’s online resource featuring information on how to develop and deploy Web-based applications using the Netscape platform. Developers can also access Netscape client software information via the Communicator area.
