StarNine Technologies Inc. Monday unveiled WebSTAR, a Web server for the Mac OS which features performance improvements and new technology that turns WebSTAR into a complete Internet Server Suite.
WebSTAR Server Suite 4.0 features a two-fold increase in Web server performance, and includes a new SMTP/POP/IMAP email server with LDAP and remote Web-based email access capabilities. Additionally, the Suite incorporates Lasso-based FileMaker Pro and ODBC database publishing, integrated SSLv2 and SSLv3 with support for multiple certificates, IP addresses and encryption options, along with dozens of improvements to the core WebSTAR servers and add-on modules.
The WebSTAR Mail server which ships with the 4.0 Suite is a complete SMTP/POP/IMAP email server, with support for multiple domain and user accounts, remote Web-based email capabilities, advanced relay blocking and allow/deny security. Is also features an LDAP server for a shared e-mail directory of local users. The IMAP server works with email clients such as Eudora Pro, Microsoft Outlook Express and Netscape Communicator with support for remote email storage and content synchronization.
WebSTAR Lasso Publisher’s Instant Web Database Publishing utility enables new users to publish their FileMaker Pro and ODBC databases on the Web in minutes. WebSTAR Server Suite 4.0 integrates HTTP and HTTPS servers in the same application, which provides greater administrative convenience. The Suite was designed for eCommerce solutions, and now supports a larger number of encryption options and certificate formats, including Server Gated Cryptography, RC4-128, 3DES-112, DES-56, DES-40 and RC4-40.
WebSTAR Server Suite 4.0 is in beta testing, and is scheduled to be released in June. Pricing will be announced on the StarNine Technologies Web site as the release date approaches.
