In an attempt to simplify domain
name complexity, The Portal
Network has developed a free alternative to traditional domain name
registration.
The Portal Network is designed to be a bridge between a Web page and its
potential audience. The site is divided into five portals–American,
Country, National, United and Youth. Once Web developers choose which
portal they want their site in, they are asked to pick a portal ID which
acts just like a domain name. The portal ID will redirect visitors to the
site regardless of where it’s hosted.
“Our service simply redirects users to your Web
site from one of ours. You can even change where users are sent to–anytime
you want, using our Web-based control panel,” said Josua Rosenfeld, Portal
Network president.
In addition, the company will design custom, multimedia ads for businesses
advertising on the network.
“We get to work closely with the advertisers because we can produce their
ads,” Rosenfeld said. “Our concept will enable us to experiment with whole
new forms of advertising that are both effective and entertaining.”
