Instant Messaging Planet Conference & Expo returns to Boston this month, offering attendees expert advice on how the communications technology can improve efficiency in their businesses.
The two-day event, produced by Jupitermedia (parent of this site), begins Feb. 24 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. In addition to keynote addresses and panel discussions featuring experts, vendors will demonstrate the latest in IM offerings at the exhibition hall.
“We’re expecting a sizable showing, because businesses in a wide variety of industries are working to better understand (IM) and wireless messaging,” said Christoper Saunders, managing editor of Jupitermedia’s Instant Messaging Planet site and a panel moderator at the event.
The show is aimed at several groups, including: executives making decisions about how to use IM; IT staffers implementing those decisions; marketers looking for an edge through new communication channels; developers of IM and wireless messaging applications; and makers of third-party products.
Steve Boom, a Yahoo! senior vice president, will give the opening keynote address. Boom’s division recently introduced the Yahoo! Instant Messenger Enterprise Edition, a management service for businesses using YIM in the workplace.
Also scheduled to speak are: Francis DeSouza, of IMlogic; David Gurle, of Microsoft; and Bruce Friedman, of Sprint’s mobile computing services group.
This month’ show is the third iteration of Instant Messaging Planet Conference & Expo. The event started in Boston last spring and was held later in the year in San Francisco. Since then, Saunders said, interest in the technology has only increased.
“We’re returning to Boston as the instant messaging space is building to a crescendo — it’s being brought out of the IT department and discussed in customer support, in marketing and in the boardroom.”
