InfoSpace Intros Private-Label Toolbar

InfoSpace has introduced a private-label version of its Dogpile search toolbar and has signed ABCNEWS.com as the product’s first customer.

Dogpile is primarily known as a popular meta search services, querying 13 major engines including Google, FAST, Ask Jeeves and Inktomi. With the Dogpile toolbar, which was introduced late last month, users can gain access to search results while viewing any page on the Web.

In addition, Web search capabilities are combined with other features including online yellow and white pages, a dictionary, thesaurus, stock quotes, public records, horoscopes and maps.

Brian McManus, InfoSpace’s executive vice president of search, said the aim of the private-label version is to help its distribution partners “drive additional sources of revenue, attract new users and provide a better experience.”

ABCNEWS.com expects to launch an ABCNEWS.com-branded version of the Dogpile toolbar by the end of the third quarter.

“Consumers can quickly and easily access the information they need from a reliable and trusted source,” said Bernard Gershon, senior vice president and general manager of ABCNEWS.com. “This venture also represents a great opportunity for ABCNEWS.com to increase its visibility on the Web and reach new users.”

Neither the value nor duration of the deal between Bellevue, Wash.-based InfoSpace and ABCNEWS.com, the online arm of the
etwork news division, were not disclosed.

Editor’s note: Search Engine Watch, which, like this site ,is owned by Jupitermedia, recently reviewed the Dogpile toolbar.
