Amazon.com, Nokia Hook Shopping Cart to Cell Phone

Nokia and Amazon.com Wednesday rolled out the first
of its WAP-based mobile e-commerce services in the U.K.

The Amazon UK mobile site will allow
users to search for items, read reviews, and shop online from a WAP-enabled
mobile device. The service will also be promoted at the Club Nokia site.

The two companies will carry out marketing campaigns this year and next year
for the partnership service, and to promote wireless e-commerce in general.

“This is the right time to start pursuing this market and creating brand in
the mobile world, since, according to our
estimate, as early as 2003 the number of mobile devices capable of Internet
access will exceed the number of PCs connected to the Internet,” said Matti
Alahuhta, president, Nokia Mobile Phones.

While the service is immediately available for the U.K., the two companies
plan to roll out the mobile site globally.
