AT&T, BT, And Rogers in Three-Way Wireless Deal

AT&T Corp, British Telecommunications and Rogers Cantel Thursday sealed a three-way deal to
market and bundle both wired and wireless services, including mobile
Internet and data communications.

AT&T Corp. and British Telecommunications Thursday jointly acquired a 33
percent stake in Rogers Cantel Mobile for Cdn $1.4 billion (US$934
million) in cash.

BT has also taken a 31 percent stake in AT&T Canada for Cdn $600 million
(US$402 million).

“Rogers Cantel and AT&T Canada represent a significant addition to our
global family of alliances and will enable BT to take an active part in the
Canadian mobile and business wireline markets,” said Alfred T. Mockett, BT
Worldwide’s president and chief executive officer.

“Today’s announcements are consistent with BT’s strategy of concentrating
on the fast moving, high growth areas of mobile, Internet
and data communications.”

Rogers Cantel, Canada’s largest wireless provider, offers cellular
services, messaging, digital PCS and wireless data services.

The deal is expected to close in mid-August.

Rogers Communications Inc., which owns 81 percent Rogers Cantel, this month
inked a $400 million broadband deal with Microsoft.
