Mobile Planet of Hong Kong is
entering the suddenly crowded mobile portal arena with a unique twist.

The company’s new wireless portal, dubbed “WAPHead” will be the first to
support both English and Chinese languages, the vendor claims. The portal
will support Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-compliant mobile phones
and handhelds.

The company said that the portal now is in trials and will be available in
September. Mobile Planet also said it plans to develop new
applications and information contents for the third generation (3G)
wireless communication.

A wide range of companies, including Ericsson, Lucent, Nextel and AvantGo
have launched Web portals designed specifically for users of Net devices.
