Chilipadi.com To Spice Up Location-based Services Market

SINGAPORE — Chilipadi.com, a portal providing content and applications for mobile devices, has announced a technology alliance with U.S.- based SignalSoft to market and sell location-based wireless services to network operators in the region.

Through SignalSoft’s local.info Alliance program, the partnership will involve testing and demonstrating SignalSoft’s solutions and chilipadi.com’s content to ensure compatibility and user friendliness.

The local.info Alliance is designed to create a consortium of application, content and service providers to leverage local.info for developing and delivering location-based information services to network operators. More than 150 providers have already joined the program, company officials said. SignalSoft customers include AT&T Wireless, Vodafone, Orange, and Sprint PCS.

Said Jamie Saw, chilipadi.com’s chief operating officer, “Wireless information that is location-sensitive opens up a whole new world of e-commerce and information on demand for mobile phone users. With the introduction of such services by mobile operators, the public can now select the type of information or commercial promotion they want to receive on their mobile devices while walking down Orchard Road or Jalan Bukit Bintang.”

Chilipadi.com had in December last year launched its wireless portal that provides more than 40 content channels and applications in Malaysia. It currently works with mobile phone operators and equipment manufacturers in Singapore and Malaysia to provide lifestyle and business-centric content.
