[Sydney, AUSTRALIA] Cisco Systems has launched a recruitment-based push into the Australian IT market with the introduction of a Job Fair designed to introduce graduates of its Networking Academies training program to major information technology companies.
The Job Fair will be held in Melbourne on October 24 and in Sydney on October 31. Hundreds of graduates will meet with representatives from Cisco partner companies including Com Tech, IBM, Powerlan and Marconi.
“Cisco has recognized that it’s not good enough to simply complain about the IT skills shortage, you have to actually step in and help train people,” said Terry Walsh, Cisco managing director, Australia and New Zealand. “[The Fair events] will enable our partners to spot good talent early in the highly competitive marketplace for good internetworking professionals.”
Cisco’s courses are offered through 70 centers in Australia, including Murdoch University in Perth and the University of Technology, Sydney. The program has been running for two years in Australia. Four thousand students have enrolled, with 300 graduates so far, and a further 600 expected to finish in time for the Job Fair events. Students that sit the full course and pass relevant exams receive accreditation as a Cisco Certified Networking Associate.
