[London, ENGLAND] Internet broadcast backbone
Cidera, Inc. is
set to expand its European operations, following
an agreement signed this week with co-location specialist
CityReach International.
CityReach will deploy Cidera Usenet News Service
and Cidera Cache Turbocharging at all of its
Secure Internet eXchanges (SiX) which are being
built in Europe. U.K-based CityReach is building
10 sites this year and 12 more in 2001.
CityReach’s SiX facilities will now get the
news delivered every day — namely a full
Usenet News feed of more 65,000 newsgroups.
The file currently weighs in at a hefty 120
gigabytes, delivered at speeds of 12 to 15 Mbps.
Receiving the service initially will be
CityReach SiX facilities in Amsterdam, Dublin,
London and Budapest. A few months later, centers
in Stockholm, Brussels, Paris, Hamburg, Berlin,
and Munich will follow.
Cidera Executive Vice President and Chief
Operating Officer Bob Marggraf said it was the
largest co-location agreement to date for Cidera.
Ralph O’Dell, CityReach International’s chief operating
officer, said CityReach particularly valued Cidera’s
fast setup for high-penetration satellite broadband
access, which will be available at all of the Secure
Internet Exchanges.
Cidera is increasingly looking overseas to expand
its operations. It already serves over 400 Points
of Presence (POPs) in North America, Europe and Asia.
