CMG Information Services Thursday acquired Activerse, a provider of Internet messaging technology.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Activerse develops and markets tools that provide instant access to Internet-connected communities, workgroups and individuals. The company’s products use Internet standards, including Java and HTML. The company makes products targeting both consumers and corporate users.
David Wetherell, CMGI’s chairman and chief executive officer, said Activerse’s technology will be deployed throughout its network of sites.
“An estimated 20 million people are regularly using instant messaging today and these products are increasingly becoming a part of every Internet desktop. Activerse’s instant messaging solution is a powerful example of an application that drives consumer traffic and loyalty, translating into expanded content and commerce channels for online communities,” he said.
Thursday’s purchase is the second this week for CMGI. On Monday, the firm purchased I/PRO, which specializes in Web traffic verification and analysis.
