Critical Path Grabs Messaging Firm RemarQ

E-mail hosting company Critical Path Inc.
Monday purchased message board provider RemarQ Communities Inc. in a move to bulk up its services to its corporate customers.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With the acquisition, Critical Path (CPTH)
will add RemarQ’s estimated 850 Internet service providers and corporations
to its client list, including high-profile customers Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), AltaVista and Novell, Inc. (NOVL).

By combining RemarQ’s message board technology with Critical Path’s Internet
messaging tools, Critical Path will offer customers a robust integrated
messaging platforms, with increased functionality, flexibility and choice,
said Doug Hickey, chief executive officer of Critical Path.

“Collaboration tools are essential in today’s environment,” he said. “RemarQ
serves top-tier outsourcing
customers… and the proven scalability of its technology will help
Critical Path bolster its position as the only provider of complete
end-to-end Internet messaging solutions.”

The RemarQ acquisition builds on Critical Path’s strategy to build a global
infrastructure and provide comprehensive Internet messaging and
collaboration solutions. In June, the company purchased outsource e-mail
firm Fabrik Connect, and in October the firm bought Internet messaging and
directory service ISOCOR for $287
million in stock.
