Disney Debuts a Directory for Families

Jun 24, 1998

Disney Online is wasting little time in leveraging its investment in InfoSeek. The two companies are launching their first co-marketed venture, Disney’s Internet Guide or “DIG”, an Internet search and directory aimed at kids and families.

Internet software developer Inktomi
Corp.
has been named as the search engine technology provider. The DIG
directory has its own site, and can also be accessed on Disney’s homepage.
It will also be featured as the children and family directory on Infoseek’s
site.

The directory is segmented into eight areas that Disney says echo typical
interests of kids and their families: Animals & the Outdoors, Stories &
Comics, Learning & Life, Games &
Toys, Sports & Recreation, News & the World, Arts & Entertainment and
Computing & the Internet.

Content for these areas are hand-selected by DIG employees, and will be
reviewed on a regular basis for relevance and entertainment value

Additional DIG features will be auditorium chat areas, and an online
suggestion box for favorite sites voted for inclusion on DIG, as well as
DIG-employee reviewed site recommendations.

“Disney’s Internet Guide is a prime example of Disney Online’s long-term
commitment to serving
families online,” said Disney Online president Richard Wolpert. “Not only
will DIG greatly enhance the online experience of Internet-savvy kids and
adults, it will undoubtedly entice the uninitiated to sample the incredible
family resources available on the Web.”
