Drug Deal in Redmond

SymRx, Inc., a new pharmacy technology firm, has acquired Redmond-based CornerDrugstore.com, a provider of B2B and B2C electronic commerce solutions for independent and small chain pharmacies.

Maryland-based SymRx, through the CornerDrugstore brand, will now provide nearly 2,000 independent and small chain member pharmacies across the country with online management tools as well as personalized e-commerce websites from which to sell prescription and over-the-counter products.

“This acquisition will allow SymRx to build upon the strong nationwide network of pharmacies enrolled through the excellent efforts of the CornerDrugstore.com team and its co-marketing partners,” says SymRx Chief Executive Officer Tom Menighan.

According to Menighan, the company will be adding professional and consumer health information, as well as pharmacy management functionality to each pharmacy’s web site. In addition, SymRx plans on working with the participating pharmacies on ways to help them promote their individual web sites and not just the CornerDrugstore brand.

Officials at CornerDrugstore.com say they expect no layoffs or changes in the Redmond office as a result of the acquisition.
