Equilibrium, Akamai Form Partnership

Equilibrium, an Internet infrastructure company and majority-owned operating
company of CMGI, Inc. has formed an alliance with Akamai Technologies Inc., a provider of global, high-performance services for the delivery of Internet content.

The partnership, which was announced at Fall Internet World 2000 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, intends to bring dramatic cost reduction and performance
improvements in the creation, publishing and delivery of media
assets via the Web.

The alliance will better enable companies to create and deliver media
assets, including dynamic content modification, localized or
personalized ad insertion and automatic optimization of media for bandwidth
connectivity and wireless applications, according to Bob Hughes, director of channel sales and programs, Akamai.

“We share a common goal of enabling Web-based
businesses to provide their customers with rich media in a timely, reliable
fashion,” Hughes said. “Our relationship will help content providers
create powerful, compelling Web experiences providing up-to-date
information quickly, regardless of site traffic.”

Crucial to the partnership is the interoperability of Equilibrium’s MediaRich Publishing
Platform, which automates the entire media publishing process for the Web, with Akamai’s FreeFlowSM content delivery service, which makes Web sites faster, noted Steve Denebeim, CEO, Equilibrium.

“By making MediaRich fully compatible with Akamai FreeFlowSM content
delivery service, we give customers a distinct advantage in
delivering rich media via the Web,” Denebeim said.

“With Akamai servers doing the edge distribution, our customers
can now deliver rich media to Web audiences of any size and automatically
respond to sudden changes in demand,” he concluded.
