E*TRADE, Intuit to Help with Taxes

E*Trade Group Inc. is making a special effort to help panicked taxpayers meet the annual April 15 deadline.

The online broker Tuesday teamed with financial services
software leader Intuit Inc. (INTU)
to bring customers the E*TRADE (EGRP)
Tax Center, complete with information and tools that help simplify the tax
planning process.

Powered by Quicken TurboTax, the E*TRADE Tax Center offers a variety of tax
planning, preparation and filing tools. E*TRADE has integrated tax
calculators, strategies, editorial content, calendars, estimators, as well
as federal and state income tax forms, into the E*TRADE Tax Center, which
is powered by Quicken TurboTax via Quicken.com at Quicken.com.

Also, customers who open a new E*TRADE IRA account will receive a free copy
of Quicken TurboTax Deluxe,
which helps taxpayers minimize their tax liability with customized tax
guidance. Beginning in January
2000, customers who open a regular E*TRADE account through the TurboTax Web
site will receive a $75 sign-up bonus credited to their new E*Trade account.

“This alliance with Intuit further demonstrates E*TRADE’s commitment to
establishing itself as the premiere online financial destination site,
providing individual investors with a wide array of financial tools and
services that help them make informed
decisions,” said Michael Sievert, vice president of marketing for E*TRADE.

This announcement comes after a whirlwind October in which E*TRADE erected
a co-branded bookstore on its site with giant Amazon.com (AMZN), which sells personal finance and online investment texts. The company also formed a joint venture in Germany with E*TRADE Berliner Effektenbank
AG and New York Broker Germany AG to capitalize on the country’s expanding market of discount brokerage offerings.
