A new event for the audio and
video Internet industry is coming to Europe.
Called Streaming
Media Europe ’99, it will be held at The RAI Centre,
Amsterdam on October 18, 19 and 20.
The European event is a version of a similar event staged
successfully in the United States by the same organiser,
First Conferences. The U.S. show attracted 4,000 visitors,
and a large number of attendees are expected in Europe
as well.
Sponsored by Microsoft, VStream, INTERVU, ChannelSeek,
Streamedia and other vendors, the conference will feature
100 executives from top companies who will talk about the
future of audio and video on the Internet.
Among the speakers will be Anthony Bay from Microsoft,
Steve Bannerman of Apple, Nicholas Butterworth from
Sonicnet, and Larry Lux from Pseudo Programs.
“It’s the first of its kind to come to Europe, and after
the success of the American events, we’re sure it will
create a buzz in the industry,” said conference director
Ghanum Taylor.
“It’s no secret that audio and video on the Internet have
enormous potential for European businesses and broadcasters,” said Taylor. “Streaming Media Europe is the first event to draw together
the European industry to talk about this dynamic, fast-growing
and exciting new industry.”

that will determine the European landscape for the Streaming
Media industry will happen.”
There will be three tracks at the conference: Future Business
Trends, Technical Development and (in depth) Case Studies.
Future Business Trends will look at the convergence of
streaming media and traditional media, examine business models,
and tell how the big portals plan to use streaming media.
Technical Development will concentrate on technical issues
such as content capture, pre-production, encoding, etc., while
also looking at how to create compelling content.
Case Studies will come from those who are already doing it,
such as BBC News Online, Shell International, and Web Marketing Limited.
An exhibition with stands from vendors offering the latest
solutions and equipment will complement the conference.
Not surprisingly, the keynote speeches will be streamed
live onto the event Web site.
