London-based travel agency Flightbookers Tuesday
launched ebookers.com, an online
travel service for independent travellers.
There are four core products on the ebookers.com Web site: airfares,
hotel rooms, car hire and travel insurance. Other services include
a flight-tracker with mobile phone and e-mail alerts, a fare alert
service that notifies users when fares drop below a specified threshold,
and an auction area where users can bid for tickets.
“ebookers.com is a customer-led, technology driven company that
aims to bring innovation and uniqueness to the travel market as
quickly as possible,” said chief executive Dinesh Dhamija, who is
also chairman of Flightbookers.
“We want to differentiate ourselves from existing travel Internet
sites which offer customers distress purchases and position
ebookers.com as the year-round travel companion.”
Users of ebookers.com will be able to book tickets for
flight departures from France as well the UK. The new site also
has its own dedicated call centres to handle off-line customer
care.
In common with other top providers of travel services via
the Internet, ebookers.com plans to tailor its content
to specific lifestyle segments, with information for
gay travellers, students and senior citizens. It says it
will also establish communities for like-minded travellers,
such as wine or coffee lovers.
“We are committed to fulfilling both the practical information
needs and functionality one expects from the web, together with
the experiential ‘wants’ of all those who love or need to travel,”
said Dhamija.
