The outgoing president and CEO of Giga Information Group , will remain on the job until Nov. 1,
two weeks longer than originally planned, while a search for his successor enters it final stages.
Robert K. Weiler quit abruptly in late August, after three years with the Cambridge, Mass., IT research firm.
At the time, the 25-year IT industry veteran, who has
held posts at Wang and Lotus, said he wanted to return to his roots in software startup. After Giga, Weiler will take the top job at a privately held Boston-area
applications firm.
Giga Chairman Richard Crandell, who is spearheading the search for Weiler’s replacement, was not immediately available for comment. In a statement, he said Giga
is “making strong progress on our search to recruit a new president and CEO, and we are encouraged by the high quality of candidates interviewing with us.”
Given the poor economy, there may be a decent pool of experienced applicants. Giga, which competes with Forrester Research, Gartner, Jupiterresearch (which is
owned by the same company as this Web site), and the META Group, has felt the crunch of the tech spending downturn, resulting in layoffs and other cost-cutting
moves.
Following Nov. 1, Weiler will retain his seat on the board of directors and has no immediate plans to sell his stock holdings, he said through the company. If that
changes, he said he will divest in an “orderly and planned fashion.”
