[Sydney, AUSTRALIA] Virtual community software company HarvestRoad has unveiled plans to
launch ConvertML, a software product designed to WAP-enable Web sites.
Although telecommunications, hardware and software businesses moving into
WAP technology are growing in Australia, Harvestroad said ConvertML’s
competitive advantage is that it will allow a Web site owner to WAP-enable
their site or portal independent of a Telco or Service Provider.
Due for launch in February 2001, ConvertML will also provide Web site
owners with access to their Web site directly through their mobile device,
eliminating the need for conversion.
HarvestRoad’s managing director Grame Barty said the software would
deliver time critical content to mobile devices simply, flexibly and at
minimal cost, bypassing the need to replicate the desired Web site content
in multiple formats.
“ConvertML is a significant breakthrough in ‘time-to-market’, allowing
businesses to address the expanding move to wireless and to be competitive
by offering customers WAP access to critical information services from the
Web site owner’s site,” he said.
“This is a classic example of an Application Service Provider (ASP)
Solution,” Mr Barty said. “We believe these are the type of services that
ASP’s will be providing for their customers in the future.”
HarvestRoad’s software will be compatible with any device that supports
WML1.1 and has been tested with Nokia (Nokia 7110) and Phone.com (Siemens
35i) micro-browsers. ConvertML will operate on the Linux, Solaris and
Windows NT platforms.
