Healthy Growth for Canadian Net Ad Revenues

According to a new research study conducted by the Internet Advertising Bureau of
Canada
(IAB Canada), Canadian Internet advertising revenues have almost reached the $10 million mark and are growing at better than 500%.


The $10 million in revenues for 1997 was up from $1.6 million in 1996.
According to the report, industry revenues are expected to continue
increasing dramatically, reaching $22.9 million in 1998 and $56.9 million in
1999.


Commissioned by IAB Canada and conducted by Ernst & Young, the study is the
first of its kind in Canada. It will be conducted on a regular basis in future.


IAB Canada was formed in December 1997 by leading Internet advertising and
marketing professionals.


“We are very encouraged by these results,” said Ted Boyd, Vice Chairman of
IAB Canada. “With representative Canadian revenue figures, this research
will serve as a key tool for our members, allowing them to now have the
numbers to rationalize a disciplined approach to integrating Web strategies
into overall business and marketing plans.”


Miles Faulkner, Ernst & Young, who directed the research program, said the
research results will help identify emerging trends and growth areas in the
industry that were not measurable before.
