[Sydney, AUSTRALIA] IBM has announced its Sydney
E-Business Innovation center is to be located in the increasingly
Web-focused area of Pyrmont.

IBM Global Services Australia has selected a heritage listed building in
Harris Street for the AUS $23 million (US $13.8 million) center, which is
expected to house over 400 e-business workers within three years.

IBM’s vision for the old wool store will be implemented by contracted
architects Geyer Design, who have been commissioned by IBM to redevelop the
building to become the heart newly developing e-business district.

During the last week of July, IBM Global Services announced its
intention to establish an Asia-Pacific center for e-business in Sydney by
the end of the year, placing the spotlight on Sydney as the e-business hub
of the region.

The IBM facility has the support of the Federal and State Governments,
and will invest more than $23 million over the next three years establishing
the technology and communications infrastructure for the centre, which is
intended to increase IT and e-business skills in Australia.

The center is expected to create 490 jobs over the next five years, of
which 340 will be new and the remainder filled by current IBM Global
Services e-business professionals.

The focus will center on the skill areas of e-commerce, Customer
Relationship Management, Supply Chain Management and Business Intelligence,
and is expected to position IBM to increase the deployment of these skills
to high profile IT projects.
