The Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers began a search for a new president and chief executive officer Friday.
ICANN, the non-profit organization which coordinates stable operation of the Internet’s root server system as well as coordination and assignment of Internet domain names, IP address numbers, protocol parameters and port numbers, has retained London-based executive search consultant Christopher Mill of Christopher Mill & Partners to guide the global search process.
ICANN said it is critical to find the right person to lead the organization in the next stage of its mission. ICANN’s board is seeking candidates with demonstrated leadership, managerial competence, technical credibility and international experience. ICANN’s president and chief executive officer serves the entire Internet community, from individuals to business and academic institutions.
Current President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Roberts signed on in 1998 with the understanding that he would lead ICANN through its start-up phase with the establishment of a stable corporate structure and transition to a fully constituted board of directors. That process is nearing completion, and the board intends to appoint a new president and chief executive officer before the end of 2000.
