  • Netscape (NASDAQ:NSCP) and Novell (NASDAQ:NOVL) through joint venture Novonyx ship Netscape software that runs on Novell’s NetWare platform. Is Novell still a player? Perhaps one of the notable things about Novell’s NetWare by some accounts may be its superior NDS or network directory services.

With Web functionality NetWare may not be as outdated as some had thought.

In practice we think a combined Microsoft NT and NetWare environment may co-exist in the same corporation. In fact, Microsoft could have acquired Novell if it had wanted an easy entry into the enterprise. NOVL shares have lagged in spite of new CEO Eric Schmidt, formerly of Sun.
