  • Netscape Communications (NASDAQ:NSCP) ships a new commerce server software product, Netscape ECXpert 1.1, for business-to-business transactions over the Internet and EDI networks. We think EDI and e-commerce may blend into one and the same over the next few years as legacy systems seek the wider world wide web platform. Despite all the media pot shots lately, Netscape appears to be plugging away at the right products. Anyone for ‘Return of Mozilla?’ A summer blockbuster?

  • Network Solutions (NASDAQ:NSOL) opens up a London office to promote the .com, .org and .net domain naming system to Europeans. We think the .com domain may become the de facto “business” standard, even for firms outside the U.S. Business on the Internet is global and .com has more to do with that blurring of borders than the educationally based’ .geography domains. We think if an enterprise is global, therefore, .com may be favored. That explains NSOL’s stock run year to date.

  • IDT Corporation (NASDAQ:IDTC) announces publicly its bid for international long distance carrier Trescom International (NASDAQ:TRES) which today turns down its $10.50 per share cash offer. Last month Trescom agreed to merge with Primus in a $125 million stock swap, or about $10 per share.
