  • CyberCash (NASDAQ:CYCH) reports more than 7,000 merchants use its payment system with more than 280 merchants signing on every two weeks. The firm says transactions it process approach about one million per week, up 150% this year. Merchant sign ups have echoed that growth, up 180% this year. The CEO buys $3.5 million shares and private funds have bolstered its cash position. Could CyberCash–finally–be on the threshold of real-world e-commerce payment systems?

  • Privately-held Electronic Newstand gets a $20 million investment from Chicago’s Madison Dearborn Partners. EN sells magazines notably through exclusive partnerships with BarnesandNoble.com (NYSE:BKS), Lycos, Cendant’s NetMarket and CMG’s Planet Direct.
