  • Netscape (NASDAQ:NSCP) inks a deal with telco upstart Qwest to feature voice mail, fax and other communications services, to be dubbed Netscape Contact. Terms undisclosed. But here’s one for you: why doesn’t Qwest acquire Netcenter. We think telcos will need a Web site to act as touchstone for all comm services, a home page for all your calls, emails, voice mails, databits. Qwest has been aggressive in its thinking. Is it that revolutionary?

  • Yahoo! (NASDAQ:YHOO) CFO Gary Valenzuela tells an investment conference crowd he sees operating margins of 30% to 36% in next 12 months vs. the 16% to 20% range analysts had expected. Bases the forecast on leadership position. We think Yahoo has proven itself as the primary platform in the brief four years of its existence. It’s made all the right moves so far. The challenge may be continued user growth at that level, the pending marketing battle ahead with Microsoft, AOL, NBC’s Snap!, and any other site that plops down the marketing muscle. Marketing could squeeze margins if it beomes heavy petting with TV, radio, newspaper promotions.

  • Concentric Network (NASDAQ:CNCX) gets a initial “buy” rating from ING Barings Furman Selz, which puts a “hold” rating on PSINet (NASDAQ:PSIX). Other recommendations today are: DoubleClick (NASDAQ:DCLK) “long-term” attractive” by BancBoston Robertson Stephens.
