In an effort to target one of the world’s fastest growing Internet markets, Lycos Inc. Wednesday launched a newly expanded, localized Japanese version of the Lycos.com portal.

Lycos added free MailCity e-mail service to the new version, as well as additional registered URLs and directories and a redesigned user interface.

The site now lists more original content and focused category searches.

“Lycos Japan is experiencing dramatic growth with traffic more than doubling in the first quarter of 1999 alone,” said Bob Davis, Lycos president and CEO. “With the newly expanded site, Lycos Japan provides a faster and easier user experience and more original content on the topics that users find most important.”

Launched last year, Lycos Japan is the third most visited of Lycos’ international sites.
