The leading Internet audience measurement firm
Media Metrix is to launch
in Europe.

It has agreed in principle to enter a partnership with two
European media research companies, GfK (Germany) and Ipsos (France),
forming Media Metrix Europe.

“In joining forces with leaders in media and marketing research in Europe, Media Metrix
Europe intends to provide accurate, reliable and comparable Internet
and digital media measurement products and services to businesses
worldwide.” said Tod Johnson, chairman and CEO, Media Metrix.

Didier Truchot, CEO, Ipsos, said he believed that the launch of the
new company was a significant step towards helping companies outside
the United States become established in the Internet economy.

Media Metrix Europe will begin audience data collection in Germany,
the UK and France in the third quarter of this year. Additional
European countries will be added as demand for the service builds.
The company says that initial reporting will cover all aspects of
the Internet and proprietary online services.

Media Metrix uses patented technology to measure users’ behavior
on the Internet, and provides comprehensive reports to advertising
agencies, financial institutions and other companies. It offers
monthly, weekly, and real-time data collection and reporting, and
covers over 15,000 major web sites and other online properties.

Ipsos, the French partner in the new European venture, is very
active in the UK where it has a subsidiary, Ipsos-RSL.
