Microland Brings Roaming to India

Microland Ltd., a leading Indian networking and
communications solutions provider, announced a new service that will give
Indian Internet users broader access to their accounts.

Working with iPass, Microland customers will be able to take advantage of
Internet roaming, providing access to the Internet and corporate networks
from more than 2,700 access points in iPass’s network which spans more than
150 countries.

The announcement was made at the Internet World India ’98 conference which
runs through August 28 in New Delhi.

“By adding the iPass remote access service, we can now provide much more
comprehensive solutions to a host of organizations across India,” said
Pradeep Kar, managing director of Microland. “The relationship is the next
logical step in our endeavor to usher in the Internet era to the Indian
marketplace.”

Kar cited the reliability and security of the iPass network as a major
selling point. Microland customers will not have to upgrade or maintain
major capital equipment to gain access to multiple tier-one carriers around
the world. iPass access partners include EQUANT, GTE Internetworking,
NTT-PC, NEC, Pacific Internet, Hongkong Telecom, and OzEmail.

iPass security features include a standards-based firewall and virtual
private network (VPN) solutions, enabling telecommuters or business
travelers secure access to their internal resources and business applications.

A recent survey by IDC (India) ranked Microland as No.1 in vendor
reputation, system integration capabilities, delivery, service and
technical competence. Microland has been ranked amongst the Top 20
companies in the Indian IT industry in the 1997 annual survey by Dataquest
India.
