Motorola Finalizes Mobile Split

Can Motorola turn it around? Responding to investors’ pressure, the venerable telecom firm has concluded its long-planned separation into two independent companies.

On Tuesday, Motorola Solutions and Motorola Mobility each began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Motorola Solutions will concentrate on enterprise and government clients, handling business lines such as Motorola’s two-way radios and RFID tags. Motorola Mobility, meantime, will handle the consumer-oriented mobile device segment, including the popular Droid phones. Enterprise Mobile Today has the story.


Motorola on Tuesday said that it had completed a spin-off through which the Schaumburg, Ill., firm will separate its mobile division as a stand-alone company.

Under the long-planned arrangement, the Motorola Solutions and Motorola Mobility today each began trading on the New York Stock Exchange as separate companies.
