National Semiconductor Corp. recently demonstrated its set top boxes designed to access the Internet via a television.
The company introduced the devices to access TV and the Net, based on
its Orion platform. The new platform combines a wide variety of devices in
hardware and software to make possible the access to information.
Developed by National, the Orion platform is a reference system based
on x86 architecture, making possible the creation of interactive equipment
to be used with the Internet, such as DVD players that interact
with the Net, Web browsers with information guide services, video receiving
devices based on ATM or LAN, and the Set Top Boxes.
The company initiative is part of its strategy to provide complete solutions
for the growing market of information access, the company said.
