Net2Phone Tuesday inked a deal with Philippine telecom SMART Communications to offer IP telephony services in the Philippines.

SMART will install Net2Phone’s gateways in the country and will enlist the U.S.-based company’s services in its roster of offerings.

“Our new relationship with SMART Communications will help further our commitment to becoming a fully global IP Telephony company,” said Mordy Rothberg, executive vice president of Net2Phone. “SMART’s joint ventures with Japan’s NTT Corporation and GE Information Services in the United States will help Net2Phone strengthen its reach to the world.”

Net2Phone (NTOP) expects the global IP telephony networks to replace circuit switched communications.

SMART leads the cellular industry in the Philippines and has the second-largest total subscriber base. The telecom will soon become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone company, which boasts the country’s largest subscriber base.
