The summer doldrums didn’t appear to affect Netscape Communications Corp. this year as it announced today that its Netcenter registration surpassed seven million members.
In the last month alone, the company reported more than 750,000 new
members, representing a 93% increase in registration since the new site
launched this past July.
Netscape also reported a surge in downloads of its Communicator and
Navigator products. Since July, the firm estimated that more than 12.4
million copies of the client software have been downloaded
from Netcenter and licensed mirror sites, totaling more than 26 million
downloads in all.
“The strong demand for Netscape Netcenter services and client software
clearly demonstrates Netscape’s success in delivering consumers the best
combination of exciting content, services and tools on
the Web,” said Mike Homer, executive vice president and general manager of
Netscape’s Netcenter Division.
Homer attributed the recent activity to its new channel content, Web-based
e-mail, and new products including SmartUpdate, a personalized
notification service, Communicator 4.06 and the preview of Communicator 4.5.
