Netscape Communications today released version 4.6 of its popular Communicator Internet suite, available for free download at Netscape Netcenter.

Like previous versions, Communicator 4.6 offers the popular Navigator browser and Mail e-mail utility.
The company claims speed enhancements designed to outperform rival IE5 in download time, and included in the upgrade is a complimentary copy of RealPlayer G2.

Version 4.6 also includes a keyword search from the browser location bar, tied into parent firm AOL’s Digital City local guide and Real Network’s RealGuide service.

“By providing seamless integration with services such as SmartBrowsing and Digital Cities, Netscape Communicator 4.6 enables users to find what they want on the Web faster and easier,” said Barry Schuler, president of AOL Interactive Services. “By adding the award-winning RealPlayer G2, Communicator 4.6 delivers the best audio and video capabilities to consumers, making their Internet experience richer and more enjoyable.”

Other enhancements include improvement on Navigator’s “What’s Related” feature, simple searches and access to Netscape’s Open Directory.
