Netscape Communications Corp. this week released Netscape Communicator 4.51 which features several browsing and security enhancements.

The new release features Quotes Anywhere, an expansion of Netscape’s Smart Browsing capability that allows users to access stock quotes through the Netcenter Finance Channel.

To use Quotes Anywhere, a user must type the word “quote” followed by a ticker symbol in the browser’s navigation dialog box. Users who have set up a personal portfolio on Netscape’s Netcenter can simply type “my stocks” in the locator field and return quotes for their entire portfolio.

Netscape Communicator 4.51 also features improved stability and security enhancements that address several problems reported by independent programmers in recent months through Netscape’s Bugs Bounty program.

“Netscape Communicator 4.51, our highest-quality browser to date, delivers new features to our users that will let them communicate with friends, family and associates easily and access stock quotes quickly,” said Bob Lisbonne, Netscape’s senior vice president of client products.

The browser also comes bundled with AOL Instant Messenger 2.0 which allows users to send real-time text messages and Web links to friends.
