Norwegian Group Launches WAP Portal

[June 8] Norwegian technology group
IT Media
announced Thursday a new business-to-business WAP and
wireless Web portal for the U.K.

The site, www.wapland.com,
has been produced for people who want information
about Internet services running over Wireless
Application Protocol (WAP). It will carry details
of all the latest products from such manufacturers
as Nokia and Ericsson, with indepedent reviews,
plus news of the latest applications.

IT Media General Manager Arve Stolann said he thought
the timing was just right for www.wapland.com as WAP
and wireless Internet were on the leading edge of the
online revolution.

“It’s very fast moving with new PTTs and other players
entering all the time with new services and new hardware.
www.wapland.com cuts through the hype and gives businesses
the desktop access and analysis they need to keep track
of developments and help them identify potential product
and service partners,” said Stolann.

Among information feeds already in place on the
site is coverage of Japan’s popular I-Mode which is
being hailed as a model for other WAP projects. Also
covered in depth are Motorola’s WAP strategy, m-commerce,
the development of WAP patents, and WAP-based stock
market trading.

IT Media launched a Norwegian-language version of the
site in February, 2000. It has since become the
leading wireless web portal in Norway with 260,000
page views to date.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of U.K. company eHolding,
IT Media also publishes Reply, a bi-monthly consumer
magazine on mobile telephony and the Internet, and
the weekly IT newspaper Telecom Revy.
