Oracle has proved once again that it’s not shy about spending money to grow its business. The computer giant has spent billions of dollars the last several years buying companies like BEA and Sun Microsystems – among others. Today’s news marks another billion dollar purchase.

As eCRM Guide reports, Oracle’s billion dollar acquisition of ecommerce company Art Technology Group (ATG) is designed to complement Oracle’s CRM, ERP retail and supply chain management applications. Oracle also said the expanded portfolio it gains from ATG fits well with its middleware and business intelligence offerings.

Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) announced today that it has agreed to acquire Art Technology Group (NASDAQ: ARTG) in a move that will combine Oracle

s customer relationship management (CRM) application portfolio with Art Technology

s ecommerce solutions.

“Bringing together the complementary technologies and products from Oracle and ATG will enable the delivery of next-generation, unified cross-channel commerce and CRM,” Thomas Kurian, Oracle’s executive vice president of Oracle Development, said in a statement.
