[Sydney, AUSTRALIA] Oracle Australia and Higher Ed Systems have launched Learn-IT Online, an initiative to provide Australian universities with access to 600 IT industry certification and professional development training courses, learner management software, and support services.
The initiative was endorsed by the Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee and launched by senator Richard Alston.
According to Phil Kiely, Oracle Corporation Australia’s managing director
and chair of the IT&T Industry Training Advisory Board, the IT industry skills shortage “is the most serious skills crisis Australia has ever faced and one that could have far reaching ramifications for the economy.”
“Keeping abreast of the competencies required in a rapidly changing
industry is a major issue. Through the HES Learn-IT Online initiative,
Oracle is delivering [an] enterprise-wide solution that will allow students to move from education into the marketplace with the desired skills already in place,” he said.
Learn-IT Online is designed to “complement higher education’s shift to flexible learning delivery.” It supports the incorporation of industry-certified training options into the curricula and aims to teach practical skills with immediate application in the workplace. Learn-IT Online will be tailored to the requirements of each university and include revenue-generating programs by allowing universities to optionally charge for the provision of vendor-certified IT training at a university determined fee for service basis.
HES has formed a business agreement with Oracle Corporation, meaning universities will negotiate directly with Oracle. Participating universities can elect to purchase Learn-IT Online products via an enterprise license, an incremental license or individual licenses.
Learn-IT Online is based on the NETg suite of online courseware.
