Critical Path, of San Francisco, California, one of the leading providers of outsourced e-mail for ISPs and other companies,
commenced European operations by hiring Netscape’s Karl
Klarmann to run them.
His brief is to persuade top European Web sites,
ISPs, and telephone service companies to provide Critical Path’s
comprehensive e-mail services, the firm said.
Founded in 1997 by David Hayden and Wayne Correia, Critical Path
set itself a mission to “handle the world’s e-mail.” It provides
scalability, fast Internet access, SSL-based security, and
redundant, load-balanced hosts.
The company is already under contract to host over
three million mailboxes for ISPs, Web portals, and corporations, chiefly
in the United States. Now it is planning a determined campaign to
increase its business globally, beginning in Europe.
Karl Klarmann, a veteran of the computer industry who built a European
reseller channel for NeXT Computer and founded Netscape’s Swiss
subsidiary, will open Critical Path’s European headquarters in Germany.
As managing director of European operations, he will spearhead the
firm’s Central European sales efforts and open data centers throughout
Europe and the UK within the next six months.
“Karl is a dynamic addition to the Critical Path team,” said David Hayden, chairman and CEO of Critical Path. “His track record of selling to the European high-tech marketplace is outstanding–we’re very excited
to have him on board to launch Critical Path into a leadership position in
the European markets.”
Among the services set to be offered by Critical Path will be: integrated
POP3 and Web-based e-mail hosting; a brandable, Web-based e-mail
interface; secure, Web-based e-mail administration tools; spam blocking;
GMT postmark and time-stamping functionality; and full customer
support.
The headquarters of Critical Path, GmbH is at: Feringastrasse 6,
