ViewCall Canada Inc. and Websurfer Inc. in partnership with Canada’s SchoolNet, are working to make the Internet more accessible to schools, students and parents in the Canadian province of Manitoba.
This new project will see Websurfer Internet set-top boxes placed in 15 student homes/schools in Manitoba school divisions immediately.
Parents and students will have access to SchoolNet and other sites using Websurfer Inc.’s Internet TV set-up box, and BeyondTV, a television
content environment developed by ViewCall Canada.
Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, ViewCall Canada is a subsidiary of Canada’s Manitoba Telecom Services Inc., which pursues distribution of new media targeted at the Internet appliance industry in Canada. Its flagship
product is BeyondTV.
WebSurfer Inc. is a Canadian provider of Internet set-top technologies and Internet hosting solutions through all channels of the marketplace. The company’s WebSurfer Internet set-top box offers end-users seamless integration of a Web browser with their existing television and standard telephone line.
Canada’s SchoolNet is a collaborative initiative led by Industry Canada,
in co-operation with provincial and territorial governments and in
partnership with the educational community and the private sector to
facilitate access of all 16,500 schools and 3,500 libraries to the
Internet by the end of fiscal year 1998.
