Sports content provider
Sportal announced
Tuesday that it will supply football (soccer) content to seven
Yahoo! sites in Europe.
The deal, which covers Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Denmark,
Sweden and the U.K., is for news stories, live ticker
scores, a results service, and other information.
Rob Hersov, Sportal’s chief executive officer, was
clearly delighted to have concluded a deal with what
he called “Europe’s favorite web guide.”
“Yahoo!’s huge audience and availability across multiple
devices will mean that Sportal content will be seen by
many people both at home, in the office and on the move,”
said Hersov.
Sportal has become a major player in online sports content
in Europe, with official sites for top football clubs
such as Juventus,
AC Milan and
Bayern Munich.
In addition, Sportal runs country-focused football
sites in the U.K., Italy, France and Spain, and
multi-sports sites in Denmark and Sweden.
Sportal’s Senior Vice President Konstantin von Unger,
in charge of Distribution and Marketing, said the
company aimed to reinforce its status as the new force in
the provision of sports content for all major European
markets.
The announcement coincides with the latest round of
matches in the Champions League, the pan-European competition between top clubs from
each nation.
