Stocks Climb Across The Boards

ISDEX rides the market high tide with a 1.45 point gain to 560.54 led by — believe it or not in this long-dormant area — Cyberian Outpost (NASDAQ:COOL) which jumps 13.68% to $13 1/2 per share on consolidation expectation in the nerdtailer sector.

  • CNET (NASDAQ:CNET) second quarter results beat the Street by two cents (excluding charges) with revenue up to $25.6 million vs. $13.3 million 2Q98. Op margins are 21%. CNET’s aggressive $100 million ad campaign comes when rival ZDNet seems weak and with CNET having a cash horde to build its brand in the sector. I think there’s a lot of untapped potential with CNET assets and position.
  • Netopia (NASDAQ:NTPA) posts an 81% increase in its third-quarter revneue to $12.2 million as DSL and site demand climbs. NTPA shares rally $1 3/8 to $28 3/8 per share on the news. I see DSL becoming hotter this year and next. Maybe NTPA rides the interest.
