Firepad Inc. has announced what it purports to be the world’s first high-speed streaming video technology for the Palm Computing Platform.

Firepad claims its video technology is capable of displaying full-screen video data on a Palm device at up to 25 frames per second. The technology will be released later this year in the FireViewer 5 client application and the FireProducer server application.

The current version of FireViewer supports two-dimensional graphics on the Palm, and has more than 310,000 downloads to date.

“Firepad has the first wireless killer app, right now,” said Kenneth J. Marshall, president and chief operating officer of Firepad. “With the first complete solution for bringing streaming video to a Palm device, Firepad cements its leadership position in bringing rich content from corporate intranets out to wireless handheld devices.”

Firepad’s software products, including FireViewer, FirePublisher, and FireProducer, distribute rich content to wireless handheld devices using standard TCP/IP protocols.
